What's the rule in regards to minors in bars? More specifically, a 19 year old. Are they allowed in, or do they ID at the door? What if it's our designated driver, does that matter? Here in Atlanta it just depends on the bar as to what their policy is.

We're staying on the "Magnificent Mile" and will be hitting the bars in that general area, if that helps with the info I'm seeking.

Thanks in advance!

Generally you're only allowed in if you are over 21.

your best bet would be possibly music venues that are 18+/all ages, or a restaurant/bar. pretty much anywhere that's just a bar will be 21+.

Yeah, you can get into a restaurant or an all-ages music show - but if you're looking to get into any bars or pubs, etc, no such luck. They're pretty across the board here - if you're not 21 you're not getting in.

Well, you need identification that says you're 21 at least!

I don't think she's willing to go that route.

The rest of us are in our early 30's so ID isn't an issue.

I wouldn't count on it- My 52 year old mom was carded at a bar in Chicago- she thought he was joking... he wasn't.

Typically, if you go to a bar before 7:00-7:30 they only card those who are ordering alcohol. So if you limit your choices to those that also serve food (which is most), and get there in the early evening, you should be okay.

Ouch... that type of stuff is so infuriating! Is it common in Chicago, or was that a very isolated incident?

My late-50s father -- and he looks every day of his age without doubt -- still gets carded at some games here in SoCal. Understandably, he is furious when it happens, and it really casts a damper on the whole event. This kind of paranoia is something we're hoping to avoid if we leave SoCal -- is it commonplace in Chicago or not?
