Cleveland Skylift would mix gondola cars with mixed reality for lakefront 'transportainment' | cleveland.com

I haven't seen any articles this year with any updates for Chicago on this subject.

Ok, so it looks like Cleveland is a ways off on starting construction on the project but I'm wondering if anyone knows if Chicago still has plans for this.

If I'm not mistaken, Chicago never did have plans to do this. I believe the gondola suggestion came from a forum that had suggested a number of different ways Chicago could enliven the downtown area. This included a light show on various buildings (Merchandise Mart comes to mind) among other suggestions.

I'd say let Cleveland have this one idea..... Chicago has its Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier the Bike Flyover under construction. Navy Pier Flyover | Home | Enhancing Chicago's Lakefront Trail. The Chicago's Lakefront needs to be OPEN along Grand Park. Too many vistas of the skyline and harbor that overhead cables would obstruct. But for Cleveland might be a original idea. Might work something like this in Pittsburgh though? They have that one going down that mountain.

As a Clevelander, I'm not at all sure that Cleveland really even needs this stuff. Sounds too theme-parkish to me.

What is a non elevated gondola?
If they do it it should also be for transportation not just sight seeing but getting from point a to b like if you are at Navy Pier and you want to go to Sears tower along river.

It was a formal proposal floated by a third party to the Chicago Tourist Council about 18 mos. / two years ago. Haven't heard about it since though.

London is also planning a gondola attraction. I would not be keen on one in either London or Chicago. Let the smaller towns try to leverage them, not Chi or Lon.

London has had one for years and it is a ridiculous waste of money. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...4_May_2012.jpg

I would travel into the city multiple times per year just to see and/or ride in one. I think the gondolas and light show reflecting off the river would be an amazing spectacle to experience. Otherwise , what new addition will Chicago use to draw the millions of international tourists they want to come here, a hotel on the pier ???
