That costs money and those neighborhoods don't have money to donate, plus their votes are already assured.

Much easier to just hold a peace march now and again while blaming the rest of the state and surrounding states for the gun problem while hoping nobody mentions that Lincoln Park has 1 murder per 100k residents annually while Austin has more like 30 per 100k and then having to face the reality that the problem is linked to poverty and not the political convenient "outside guns".
Let the police do their jobs by treating this as what it is - a state of emergency being caused by domestic terrorists. And the cops aren't the ones doing the shooting, as many of our leaders seem to believe. There have been 404 people shot and killed and 2,043 shot and wounded in our City this year. Police have killed 4 of those and shot and wounded 10 of those. That's less than 1% of the killings and less than 1/2 of 1% of the wounded.

Unfortunately, it is more politically expedient for today's Democrats to put the focus on police reform. It generates more headlines and fits into the progressive agenda better. It also helps avoid honest discussion over the fundamental question of "why is this happening?" So unfortunately, the killings will go on and on and on. I don't see any of the Mayoral candidates taking any kind of anti-crime stance. It's all about "police reform." The numbers, however, show that'll not solve anything.
