Agree with Lake Geneva, but also consider nearby Delavan Lake and the Lake Lawn Lodge. Huge place with a lot to do, if you want to do anything at all. Much quicker drive than to Galena (which is nice as well but quite a bit further away from downtown).

We decided on going to Wisconsin Dells. Anyone have tips on where to stay? What to do? Deals or Values?

I'd probably do the Circus World museum, in the nearby town of Baraboo. Do a river ride on the Wisconsin River(for Wisconsin Dells), as well.

Others might know better, all the attractions in WI Dells or nearby towns. Including decent places to stay.

Info & pricing on Circus World. From a few acres this has turned into a world class museum

In Wisconsin Dells do a boat tour. Your choice between the Duck Boats or other craft.

What do you like to do? When I went, I hiked in Devil’s Lake State park (Mirror Lake is also nearby) and did the Upper Dells boat tour, which takes you to Witches Gulch. There are lots of water parks, obviously- both indoor and outdoor. If you like biking, it is not that far from the Elroy-Sparta trail, which has three tunnels. You can also walk if you’d like to see one tunnel. The longest tunnel is pretty neat. You will need to bring a headlamp or flashlight. It is a bit of a drive from Wisconsin Dells, but an unusual experience. I think the longest tunnel is .75 miles, so if you just want to walk it from the nearest road access, it is probably a few miles total.

The Dells is a nice escape from the city. Good pick.

We are looking for a mix of activity and relaxation. We will definitely do a bit of hiking. We are going to stay in a water park hotel, any recommendations for one of those?

I've stayed at the Kalahari a couple times and it's good. It's similar waterparks inside and outside. That said, the hotel waterpark is not as good as Noah's Ark, which is a standalone water park. I would imagine Great Wolf and Wilderness have similar setups to Kalahari, but I found Kalahari to be less expensive.

As you start researching for your trip you'll see that Mt. Olympus has a massive footprint in town. It has hotel buildings throughout the main strip, its own waterpark, and amusement park rides. I've never been to the Mt. Olympus amusement park or water park, so I can't comment on how enjoyable they are.

Allow 3 hours to drive. Check Wisconsin Dells for deals.

Apart from gas not much to stop on your way.

You could 100% stop in Madison.
