Here is what they are saying: (these are not my words!! I'm from Chicago and love it!!!)

"It seems clearly better than Chicago (at least from my experiences) in terms of number of things to do, weather, and proximity to other interesting places. Houston is near Galveston, a short car/train ride (in the future) from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas. Chicago is the only big town for 1000s of miles. The entire cultural life of Chicago seems to consist of getting drunk on cold nights. Houston offers lots of museums, arts, etc., in addition to more clubs/bars than you could ever want. Why doesn't it get more love?
Also "natural beauty" isn't the reason - Chicago is cold and bleak most of the year and is just as flat as Houston. Houston is lush and green year-round.
I would put the U.S. cities like this:
L.A. > NY > SF> Houston > Chicago"

This person is out of control. Anyone trying to promote Houston and Dallas as Alpha's/ Beta's is losing their mind. Does Texas even have any Beta's? I know there is 10 Alpha's (correct me if I am wrong) and I believe Chicago, NYC & LA are the only US cities on that list. Drover -- Is this right?

Nope, Houston is below (and far below IMO) Chicago in terms of global importance, etc.

Let that poster think that Chicago is the way he says it is, he obviously has never been outside his neighborhood except maybe to go to school or visit his parole officer.

OK here is a mass generalization that somewhere, is based on a little truth:

People from Texas believe that they and everything they have is superior to the rest of the country.

These opinions, therefore, can be discounted.

I don't care what people from Houston think of Chicago, hell, they live in Houston, poor souls, they gotta do something to make themselves feel better and pass the time.

Oh, and we like to drink on warm nights too.

Funny you mentioned that since it's the Chicagoans bashing L.A. on their forum. Everyone's complaining about Chicagoans' insecurity and making fun of flyover country's (the Midwest) hicky attitudes and values. Talk about the "Pot Calling the Kettle Black!" What comes around goes around.

Actually it was Californians bashing Chicago on its own forum, and then being surprised to find we had articulate arguments against each of their so-called points, just as we certainly would to any of the crap anyone down in Bush country could think to say about Chicago. ...But sadly, it turns out I am far too drunk to care.

I noted the caption on the post and it drew my interest. Seems alot of folks bash different places on here. Just wondering here, what part of Alaska are you in and if I may ask, why are you heading down to Texas?

Do you honestly think the "flyover country" bashers aren't talking about Houston? Or making fun of Texas's "hicky attitudes and values"?

Obviously the guy bashing Chicago on the Houston board has never been to Chicago. Houston has it's own thing going on, but doesn't even come close to Chicago in terms of cultural or recreational offerings. In fact, I'm really not sure what the appeal of Houston is outside of some 1980s mirrored glass I.M. Pei towers and nicer winters. It's like L.A. without the stuff that makes L.A. cool.
