Will I be able to view the Chicago Air and Water Show from the Tides Apartments (facing the river)? How about St Patty's day celebration? Id rather not fight the crowds and just drink beer on the balcony with friends!!!

But only IF I have a decent view.

Also, what month is the Air and Water show held?

I am pretty sure you will be able to see the Air and Water show decently as long as your windows are facing north. The show is always in August. I believe it is Aug 15, 2009 - Aug 16, 2009 next year.

Here is a PDF for the major city events in 2009:

For St. Patrick's day I do not think you will be able to see much except for the green river...

The St. Patty's stuff isn't really worth seeing anyway outside of the green river. It's mostly an excuse to drink. The downtown parade is quite boring, and pales in comparison to the Southside Irish Parade.

The Southside Parade is the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day.Sometimes they change it depending on when Easter and Palm Sunday fall.
