Anyone know of any decent extended stay hotels that rent by the week?

The one in Downers Grove, IL is not bad. A friend stayed there for 3 months before finding an apartment in the area. I've also had family stay there. Its a drive to the train station though, so if you need to go into the city, you'll need a car and you'll pay daily parking.

SRO's? They're in the city, but I'd never stay in one.

I stayed in one for a month at the Buffalo Grove location. It might be too far away from Chicago though. I know there's one closer to Evanston, but I don't know of any in Chicago, you might want to check their website.

Most Extended Stay hotels are nice, but expensive. I saved a lot by booking a month because according to their policy, if you book a month with them, they drop their hotel tax fees and those can be a killer expense.

Most, if not all, Extended Stay apartments will let you book a week.
