This is one of those things that will be hard. Things probably easier to cover up back then....my family had that back with my g-g-g grandpa. We always thought his wife was our g-g-g grandmother, but now we have no idea. We learned there might have been a possible affair with a servant (yeah yeah) they brought over from Europe back in the day. Is my g-g-g grandmother who I think it is or is it the servant? I will never know. It's next to impossible to prove that sort of thing, even if it happened in the 1950s it would probably be harder than if it happened in the last 30 years.


The DNA thing is a good start, but that requires you get a kit (costs at least $100), and while it's cool....not many people do it. Usually your matches will be people who may have been related to you 2000 years ago if you're lucky, 10,000 years ago on average maybe.
