Besides, if a bunch of dead people were seen by many, it would have been such a spectacular event that it is impossible to believe the great historians of the time, like Josephus, would not have written about it.

Matthew took a lot of liberty in writing, and potentially fabricating his version of the gospel. There is a tremendous amount of material available on the topic. For starters just look at the differences in the genealogies provided by Matthew, Luke, and the OT. For one, Matthew apparently couldn't count the generations accurately, and wasn't he a tax collector in his former career?

Yes, if one just takes the time to read through the book of Matthew and compare it to the Old Testament passages he sometimes reference WITHIN their historical and ENTIRE context, you will see he was really audacious.
