Claiming to know the mind of God is the highest form of arrogance. We know that to save us was Jesus's reason for dying - we cannot assume we know His every reason for coming to earth.

This was undoubtedly one of the reasons the early Church fathers left any such details out of the Bible - anyone claiming descent from Jesus would be the ultimate threat to the Church's power.
Some posts here are derisively referring to Dan Brown's novel, but he didn't make up this idea out of his imagination - it's a longstanding theory which he simply drew upon to write a very good novel.

What is truly sad is that so many people believe that the Bible, as we have been taught to accept it, is the source of "all" truth.

In many cases, we know this for a fact because their spouse is specifically mentioned. In most cases, we don't know because their spouse was never mentioned. This just seems to be the way that the people of Israel write: Wives and girls aren't worth mentioning. Would we even know that Jacob had a daughter named Dinah if the prince of Shechem hadn't raped her? Probably not. Biblical genealogy lists almost never mention the mother by name. For example, who is Enoch's mother? What about Noah? Abraham? David's awfully important, yet his mother is never really mentioned in the Bible. Do we have any names for any of the apostles' mothers? Do we have names for any their wives? All very sexist, but that's how they wrote.

You can't say for certain that Jesus was married. You also can't say for certain he wasn't. We can't draw any conclusions from a matter to which the Bible is completely silent.

For my part, I think that Jesus was most likely married at some point. Rabbis of Jesus' day were expected to marry. They were expected to follow the commandment to "be fruitful and multiply". There is not and has never been any notion that celibacy was a higher way of living in the Jewish religion. On the contrary, being celibate would be seen as a violation of God's Laws. It is unlikely that the Jews of his day would have taken him seriously if he was celibate. Had Jesus been celibate, that's something that the Pharisees and Scribes would have attacked him for mercilessly. To me, the fact that they never did so means he was married at some point. I have no way to prove it, but I think it's fair to say this much: It is far more likely that Jesus was married at some point.

What we have is an extremely fragmentary account of Jesus birth and the last three years of his 33 years of life. What we do know about those three years is tiny in comparison to what we don't know about those three years. So it would be more than a little arrogant to say that we know what he was doing for the remaining 30 years or so when we honestly have no clue.
