Unless, obviously, you are a fundamentalist. Who seem to relish the idea of pain being inflicted on people. Once again I am reminded how lucky I am to not be a part of that belief system. Woot! Thank you, Jesus!
It doesn't have to, but it might, depending on how far you have strayed.

They have already said enough.

Sometimes people are so eager to take stabs at those they disapprove of, that they don't realize what their comments say about themselves.

Violence will never correct any problem. Violence will only create capitulation which breeds resentment and anger, NEVER will it bring about real correction or repentance.

Again, it seems to be an assumption. Is there some reason you do not wish to ask rather than assume?

Sounds so pot and kettle-ish...don't they realize this?

So, in fundamentalism, the worse the sin the worse the whoopin' by God?

The 'woodshed', meaning the feeling of remorse, is a blessing, not a curse, like some seem to think. It brings us to repentance. The fact that some equate it to violence shows lack of understanding.

Believers can feel the grieving Spirit when they do things which dishonor God. If you listen to it, it will help you stay on the right path. If you ignore it, it will lead to a weakening of the relationship.

That is the meaning of the "woodshed", for those who failed to understand it.

"do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."

No one said anything about actual violence. It was just a figure of speech.

I think they know that, it is just some like to rile up an individual or turn the conversation in their favor.
