Construction began in Corpus Christi, TX on the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere. The cross is expected to be 210 feet tall and its construction required help of volunteer contributions to make it a reality. It is being erected under the guidance of Pastor Mike Rilby of the Abundant Life Fellowship in Corpus Christi. Apparently he has forgotten the wisdom of Matthew 6:6

It's their money. But I can't help wonder how many poor people could be fed with that million dollars.

Feed people? When the church members can spend money and say, "Look at us! We put up a ginormous cross 'cause we're Christians!!"

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....

The hungry should be grateful they have something to look at. It will take their minds off the hunger pains.

There's another big one near Effingham, IL off I-70. It's used to store food to feed the hungry.

Ok, I made up the last part.

The church has more than one mission. Feeding the poor is just part of what they do. Sharing the good news of Christ is also part of their mission. Perhaps the cross will lead someone in need to the Lord's mercy.

Hahaha! I read the title of the thread and instantly thought 'Texas!'. Sure enough. They love big, gaudy things.

Is this cross going to be so big and indestructible that not even a hurricane from God could knock it over?

Showy religion, for sure. Just like them thar Pharisees!

Exactly. The second largest cross is also in TX. That one is located in the tiny town of Groom, and it is 170 ft tall. There's another gigantic one in Houston, and that one is 19 stories high. The religious folks who bash atheist billboards would do well to remember that what's good for the pious is also good for the heathens
