Has any christian on this forum ever dealt with masturbation and other sexual sin? How did you overcome it? Did you take any other steps along with prayer? Just curious.

IMO it it most definitely a sin. You feed the old nature by giving into your fleshly longings. I looked for a good little while but I couldn't find the exact verse I was looking for. Something about if a man(woman) so much as looks at another person with lust in his heart he has sinned. anybody know what I'm talking about? Anyway here are some others that fit~

Ephesians 5:3 There should not be even a hint of sexual sin among you. Don't do anything unclean. And do not always want more and more. Things like that are not what God's holy people should do. (NIV)

Col 3:5 So put to death anything that belongs to your old nature. Get rid of your sexual sins and unclean acts. Don't let your feelings get out of control. Remove from your life all evil longings. Stop always wanting more and more. You might as well be worshiping statues of Gods. (NIV)

Heb 4:13 Nothing God created is hidden from him. His eyes see everything. He will hold us accountable for everything we do. (NIV)

Rom. 6:12-14 So don't let sin rule your body which is going to die. Don't obey its evil longings. Don't give parts of your body to serve sin. Don't let them be used to do evil. Instead, give yourselves to God. You have been brought from death to life. Give the parts of your body to him to do what is right. Sin will not be your master. Law does not rule you. God's grace has set you free. (NIV)

Rom 8:8 Those who are controlled by their sinful nature can't please God. (NIV)

Hope that helps, and another thought. IMO the stronger relationship you have with God the less you want to live for yourself and more for Him. Pray and get into the Word. Its our instruction book!

[SIZE=3]1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. ... since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. (NIV)

Sorry one more!

I've never heard it referred to as a "fleshly longing" before, but I like it.

Pun intended???

Don't let it chase you off Blue,,,that's what they want! I agree it has very little, very little! to do with Christianity.

My take is, if you have to ask,,,,ITS NOT THE BEST, and most often is a SIN.
godspeed,

freedom

Masturbation is a normal thing that young teens will do around puberty even if the topic has never been discussed. Sinful? I am not sure, part of me wants to say yes but the other part of me wants to say its a mechanism to protect us from sin, especially for teenagers and young adults not ready to marry. The Bible does talk about lust being sin though and lust generally accompanies masturbation. A lot of it might depend on what you focus on while masturbating.

Sexual sins can be overcome by placing our trust in the blood of Jesus Christ. Maybe if a person thinks on things that are pure, lovely, and of a good report they will live a holier life. If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Trash in the mind produces trash in the life. I believe that the sins of the flesh should be confessed and renounced. Find a good prayer team to pray with, it is very freeing. Gaurd your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life. Set your affections on the things above. Be led by the Holy Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Now there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. For all the judgemental, it is written that if a man looks upon a woman and lusts in his heart he has commited adultry in his heart. The whole world is corrupted through lust. Praise be to Jesus who sets us free. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. Whom the Son sets free shall be free indeed. I write this in love and not condemnation.
