Matt. 7:13-14.."The Narrow Way"
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. (14) Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
...Jesus knows that many will go in by the "broad" way...and He knows that few will "find" the "narrow" way...
Matthew 7:21-23.."I Never Knew You"
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. (22) Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' (23) And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
...and He knows that many will say to Him in that day. 'Lord, Lord...'..and He says He will declare to them...'I never knew you...'......

...this breaks my heart...
I'm so glad that Alpha posted this thread. As it is so timely to the great discussions of living Christ that have presented themselves on this forum.
Matt 5,6,7 are truly the greatest teachings the world has ever seen on paper.
What an awesome privilege it must have been to hear it straight from the Master so long ago.
Verna you have a great heart for the Lord and such a deep understanding of His message. A shining Light on a Hill.
May God continue to bless your walk.

My dear friend freedom......my heart just aches inside of me...I live to love...and be loved...this is all I am good for...and freedom...you have your own beautiful light...and deep understanding of His truth...you are very loving and kind...I too am very glad for Alpha posting this thread...I love to read Jesus' conversations...His Word stands alone...He speaks it...and we can stand upon it...every single solitary word of it...God bless you freedom...I love you dearly...Verna
I agree with Verna's post, but I also see in verses 7-11 to keep asking, seeking and knocking for the truth of God's Word and we will be given it. In verse 24 I see action is required if we are to be wise.
Freedom brings up an interesting point, I think that Matthew 5,6,7 are one great teaching giving the essentials of the faith and the action it should produce.
I absolutely love the book of Matthew. There are so many things that stick out to me.
* Be Careful About Judging Others 7:1-6 - One that we all have had to deal with at some point in
our lives.
* Ask God for What You Need 7:7-11 - Asking him..wow. He will listen, one key factor is he will
answer in his time. But just knowing you can ask him...that you are relying on him...
* The Most Important Rule 7:12 - Do to others what you want them to do to you. - I have
noticed that the more i grow in the word..that this pops up to me more..i really try to
stop and think before i speak and act towards others.
* The Way to Heaven Is hard 7:13-14 - Amen.
* People Know You by Your Actions 7:15-23 - The first line stuck out to me because someone once
said to me in this forum "Be careful of false prophets" and that is so true. For me growing in
the word is a very vulnerable time, a very sensitive time. And it hasnt been until recently
that i have had a glimpse of "you will know these false prophets by what they do"
* Two Kinds of People 7:24-29 - Those who follow the way..those who think their way is better
than God.
This is really the first time i actually sat and was "still" while reading. yes i read the Bible all the time but there are those times that you have that "ah ha" moment. I'm having those moments while studying Matthew. Thanks again..Alpha for a wonderful idea. God Bless

Good morning sandgirl....my friend...yes...you are so right...seeking....searching ...and digging underneath the surface and finding the deeper things of God...this is what it is all about...God yearns for us to study His Word...line upon line....and precept upon precept...the deep things concerning His truth...He tells us to study to show ourselves worthy...this is the true freedom one can find...a true treasure...action is indeed required so gain wisdom...Love you
I was struck by the instructions regarding judging others....that with the same measure we use it will be used on us. Think about it!
Also on the necessity of fruit....and proving if you will.....and I have always been encourage by 'good fruit coming from good trees and bad fruit coming from bad trees'. That has and continues to bless me.
The foundation being built on rock! YES! Even when the spiritual, physical, and emotional storms rage, Christ, my ROCK, keeps me secure. It's hard sometimes to realize it...but it's when you take a deep breath and realize you are in HIS hands that the noise fades and the peace that passes understanding reigns supreme! We take His words....all of His words....and we put them into practice and we will persevere. Praise the Lord. God's amazing.
I was also caught by the last verse....that Christ's authority amazed the people much more than the Holy Roller Know-It-Alls of Jesus day. The WORD is the authority in our lives. John 1 says the Word is Jesus....He is our WORD. Deep stuff....deeper than we can fully comprehend.
God bless all participating and reading. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
Great posts everyone!
verse 6 Jesus tells us need to be wise in our witnessing and know when to walk away.
Jesus tells us in 7-8 to persist in pursing God. Sometimes people say I tried after just halfhearted attempts and say He can't be found, but knowing Him takes faith, focus and following through.
Believing in Jesus is the only way to Heaven and sadly not all will find it.
Building a solid relationship with Jesus is the only way to weather the storms that will come in life.
This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible; 7:5 "Hypocrite! first remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eye."
So often many want to quote the first four verses of this chapter and ignore the fifth. Are you open enough to admit your own transgressions? Do you love your brother enough to admit to failing yourself? Do you love others enough to not only share your struggles but to help them with theirs? Just because we are accused of being judgemental does not mean we are when we share the truth. I do not want anyone to feel I am trying to be superior to them, I want them to know I struggle as well and we need to help hold one another accountable. I do not condemn anyone, they condemn themselves by their rejection of the truth and not my interpritation of the truth but the plain and simple truth of the scriptures.
Many like to abuse another verse, 7, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
We must do these things in Gods will and not our own.
Narrow is the gate, Narrow is the Gate, NARROW IS THE GATE, NARROW IS THE GATE!!!!!! We miss this so often with our many versions of what the truth is.
