or does it?

Matthew 16:18-19- “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

I do not believe the Pope is infallible.

I believe Jesus was speaking of himself when he said upon This rock will I build the church another verse refers to Jesus being the chief cornerstone and again the stone the builders have rejected. Jesus was only giving the similarities of Peters name to Jesus's own nature. As all must agree the church is built on Jesus not on Peter. Besides Peter proved time and again he couldnot stand up against the gates of hell, but Jesus did much more the gates of hell could not hold him it is in reference of his resurection.

The curious thing about many of the verses in the bible is that it can be interpreted different ways and seem to fit..
I imagine it depends on where and who you worship with as to what is right for you.
I can see both sides of the Peter issue.
Personally though I believe that the only head of the Church and the cornerstone is Christ and the work on the cross enabled us to go straight to Him without going through any man..

JMHO

One of those cute Hebrew idioms, 'peter' is a tiny pebble. Jesus was comparing the two, a tiny pebble as compared to the Rock.

From Jesus flows the power to do these mighty works.

I agree that the Bible supports the oral tradition that Peter was the first Pope. Jesus used Aramaic when speaking. In John 1:42, Jesus refers to Peter as Kepha or Cephas. That term was translated into Greek as petros, so what Jesus said to Peter (in Matt 16:18-19) was "You are Kepha and on this very kepha I will build my church." The office of the Pope was prefigured in Isaiah 22:15-24. If you read Acts (specifically Acts 1:15, 2:14, 2:37-38, 5:29, 15) you can clearly see Peter exercising the office of the Pope as leader and spokesperson for the Apostles.

As far as the Church being built on Jesus, that goes without saying.

That's the key issue - Jesus said when we pray, do so in this manner: OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN...

The Bible teaches that Jesus made St. Peter the first pope explained here:
The Bible teaches the Papacy

Mt 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Church organizations leave this part out when claiming they are of God.

in Matt. 16:16, Simon Peter says "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." This is the rock upon which Jesus, head of the church, built His Church. Not a person was it built upon, but a doctrine. You must believe that Christ is the Son of God and that He has the power to atone for the sins of the world in order to be saved. This is the foundation of the Church.

you call the pope, holy father, don't you?

what about this:

And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. (Mt. 23:9)

I consider Catholicism to be a diabolical and pagan cult
