The silliest one I have ever heard is BER-lin, Ohio, as opposed to the German ber-LIN.

While not a town, I get a big kick from out of towners trying to pronounce Pfeiffer Rd. You hear some real tongue twisters out of that.

For fun when I go to Louisville, I pronounce it everyway except the way the locals do. The locals say, LUH-ville, I say Lew-ee-ville and Lew-ees-ville. Oh how I love to irritate people.

I call it Loo-is-ville.

Maybe next time I'm down there I'll say, "loose-ville".

It's kind of like going to San Francisco and calling it Frisco. They hate that (and if you are curious, the locals say, "Safracisco" as if it is one long word or they call it, "the city" as if it is there is no other city in the area).

Who would dare-uh to pronounce it differently?
The only right way to sound out a place name is to follow the natives' lead: Mee-LAH-no in Milan Italy, MY-lun in Milan Indiana; and so on.

Goyguy,
Let's not forget Milan (pronounced MY-Lan) or Medina (pronounced Meh-dy-nah) in Ohio. I actually visited the islands of Madeira in my youth and got to sample some of their famous sweet wines-quite a treat for a 12 year old. Didn't give a hoot back then about correct pronunciations. While on the topic of local pronunciations, is Colerain pronounced: "Cole-Rain", "Co-le-rain", or some other way??? Just curious...

Everybody should check out the huge holiday light displays in Colerain Twp and North College Hill that're both at houses on Gal Brith Road. Or is that Gall Brith? lol

Funny, the weather guy on Channel 5 last night pronounced Goshen as, "Gosh-In" and not "Go-shin". Hmm, must be from around here.

That's how they say it in Berlin, MA, as well!
As for "tricky" street names, Boudinot Ave is probably my #1 choice in the city. I got schooled in how to say it during childhood. Fast-forward more than a few decades, and I'm on the phone at work with someone seeking a pharmacy in their west-side neighborhood. "Hmmmm...bringing up the listings here...you could go to the Walgreen's on bood-in-oh..." Pause on the line - then: "ARE YOU FROM HERE???"
