Do you always have to contest others' numbers or sources if they show something that presents other cities (particularly Cincinnati and Cleveland) in a more favorable light than Columbus? Who's to say your Columbus-homer stats are accurate?

Well that and he is speaking for Columbus from Mexico City. Which of course begs the question when was the last time dude was in the Cin-Day area? Just asking.

These statistics ("OHIO JOB GROWTH BY METRO AREAS/2011") came from the Bureau of Labor. And, if you reread your post #104, you'll realize how the stats added to the discussion, rather than any population figures or other numbers.

I just moved this year. It's not like it's been years since I've been in Ohio.

Cool, been to Cin-Day down 75 of late?

BTW - how is Mexico City? I am an former New Yorker and am under the impression that place is huge. Also, not to get too far off topic, but is kidnapping really that popular there?

Dayton Region has:

5 Hospitals in the top 5% as reported by Health Grades Inc.

Wright Patt - You mentioned, and they employ approx. 26,000 military and civilian personnel - and spin off companies add an estimated 1,000 new employees each year

Kettering Health Network and Premier Health Partners employ approx. 50,000 people in Dayton Region.

2 world class shopping malls and one world class lifestyle center

2 large universities with around 68,000 enrollment between the two

On the other hand the city of Dayton is a different story at the moment.
That really isn't too much. I mean the Universities aren't bad, but I get a bad feeling eds and meds seem to be the only things holding up lesser economies. Cities that are the real drivers have way more than that. Both industries (not going to start a debate about how they should be fixed) have out of control costs and are long term unsustainable as economic drivers unless the costs are reeled in.

Take the Bay area for instance, the largest employers are not Educational and Medical institutions they are rapidly growing tech companies. Even though Cincinnati's largest employer is UC at the very least there is a whole host of Fortune 500 companies to back it up. Dayton only has Wright Patt and a few high tech companies.

The last time I was down 75 through Cincy was in November 2010. I assume not that much has changed since then.

There's about 9 million people in the city proper, and about 22-23 million in the metro. So yeah, it's large. Crime in DF is actually not that bad. The murder rate is about half that of Columbus. There are bad parts of the country, but DF is fairly safe. Just have to use common sense like any other place.

Link? I've been looking on the BLS site and must be missing it. The only thing I've found is private-sector job growth, which was far more than 800 in Columbus.

(December, 2011 was an especially embarrassing month for metro Columbus, wasn't it? But the statistics are what they are & the reality is what it is, isn't it?) Now just let it go, jbcmh81; the show's over. ()
