It's true that Trauth egg nog is no longer available. When Dean Foods bought them out they kept the Trauth name on for a bit. I don't think the Trauth name is even on the carton anymore.

The best thing about Trauth egg nog was the addition of rum flavor. It was perfect, and I've never found another brand that does that.

A very good egg nog is from the Hartzler Dairy out of Wooster. You can find it in places like Whole Foods and the like.

Trauth is now selling their products under the name "Reiter" ... I believe its part of Dean's food plan to consolidate regional names.

I don't drink eggnog (my husband does) and he likes all the trauth-branded milk products (which the switch to the reiter name just occurred this last month or so, there've been radio commercials about it).

Hartzler we just bought from Dorothy Lane Market - and husband said was good, but not good enough to justify price (though glass bottle was fancy!).

We always just buy small cartons of whatever is around, and if any are good enough to request a repeat, we buy whichever that is for the rest of the season.

This makes sense Trauth is now selling products under the Reiter name, which is part of Dean Foods. It fits the Dean mold of combining regional brands into a single brand.

You could buy Graeter's eggnog ice cream and melt it.

I would think the Aglamesis eggnog ice cream would also be a choice. They are actually known for it.

I did not know there was eggnog icecream? I might actually have to try that.

And you've lived in the area how long? LOL It's Graeter's flavor of the month every December. It's fabulous ... I've not had Aglamesis' eggnog ice cream; I'm sure it's delicious, too.

7 years!! Though that seems hard to believe. We don't get out to Graeter's much after October and I'm too cheap to buy it in the grocery store when Haagen Daas is on sale.

Besides, when I go to Graeter's its always a strawberry sundae with strawberry ice cream. Maybe I can convince my husband to go for the eggnog and I can try a spoon.

Any eggnog works if you add some Maker's Mark and some nutmeg.
