A friend was talking about a steakhouse that she and her husband loved in the 70s.

It was in a rail car west of downtown.

We have no recollection of that one, do you?

I used to eat there in the late 80s/ early 90s.
At that time, I know it had been around for decades.
It was located between 3rd and 4th street on Walnut or Main. Possibly Sycamore.
The street from 3rd to 4th was a hill.
The entrance was on the sidewalk and not thru the building.
I think it was in the basement under a 3 or 4 story department store or maybe a bank.
It was a diner style place. Think counter stools and booths. Fairly Large.
The waitresses had been there for years.
Blue Plate specials.
Popular with downtown workers. Breakfast and lunch would have been their peak times.
I'm not even sure they were open in the evenings or on weekends.

Thoughts?

I believe it was Mills Cafeteria. I walked past it a lot of times, but could not afford it at that time.

What was the name of that restaurant?

Has anyone mentioned the Beacon Inn? It was located on Montgomery Road at the far eastern end of Montgomery (about where the Montgomery Kroger store is now). There was a lighthouse-like structure on the property with a beacon light glowing and an outside lettered sign. On the outbound side, the sign read, "Last Chance For A Good Meal in Cincy" while on the inbound side, the sign showed, "First Chance For A Good Meal in Cincy". That was very correct because going east from that point back then was basically undeveloped open land. Beacon Inn lasted up to about 1970.
