Well Mercer now meets NYC MSA and with that Burlington meets a NYC CSA connection. This adds 6.7 million to the NYC CSA, will see if the Census changes their classification but the numbers already make the connection
Do you realize how mamoth NYC and the metro is regardless of this connection? And its not like these areas to connect are that far away, Burlington county to NYC itself is something like 28 miles at its closest point, it is not like they are far flung lands
for that to work Mercer would have to be a central county to the NY metro. Is Mercer a central county??
remember metros are combined if a commuter threshold of 15% is met between any combination of Philly counties and Mercer county if Mercer county is a central county.
I don't remember Mercer being a central county, but I could be wrong (not likely tho )
Sprawl ended a while ago. The area is densifying now. L.A. CSA passes New York's (assuming the census doesn't annex more land to NY), it will be by densifying. Still a good 30 years away, IMO.

I am not taking sides and am not sure to what you are speaking of. But, Mercer CT...... along with Monmouth and several counties are considered to be an area called "Central NJ". Basicly its an area where the culture of NYC and Philly overlap.
Please explain that one. NYC is by far the densest city in the country, yet it's MSA density is well behind L.A.'s. That is a huge telltale sign of low-density sprawl.

was responding to kidphilly's comment about NY and Philly combining.
for counties to be joined to a metro commuting patterns must meet the threshold to a core or central county instead of just any county in the metro.
So I am asking would Mercer be a central county in NY (or Philly) ???

What you call "low-density sprawl," we call "breathing room." If I'm going to live in a suburb, I want to have a yard large enough to play football with my son. I don't want to be able to lean against my own house and then put my foot against yours.
