Both are considered to be a part of or near the Emerald Coast region, informally called the Redneck Riviera, both have many hotels, and both have very good deep sea fishing. Which do y'all prefer?

Given that Mexico Beach was just leveled by a Cat 4 hurricane, that's a pretty easy choice to make right now.

Mexico Beach was much less developed, even before nearly being wiped off the map by Michael. Orange/Gulf Shores/Flora-bama/Perdido are more similar to Panama City Beach (lived there for a couple of years). Neither hold a candle to Destin/Fort Walton Beach for quality of amenities and beaches. Deep sea fishing is amazing across this whole area!

You could buy some extremely cheap property in Mexico Beach right now, but having driven through there months after th hurricane, there isn't much left. Will be decades for them to recover .
