All 3 have similarities. Everyone pointed that out. Somone made an awesome point, the older ranch style houses in Miami and LA look slightly different, but the older Spanish-Style homes look nearly identical. There are areas of West Palm Beach/Lake Worth FL where I used to live that look uncannily identical to dense suburbs and cities in the LA basin like Long Beach, or South Central or the South Bay.
When I think of LA I think of sprawl not beaches its what LA is known for . Downtown s not on any water like Miami. My percetion of Houston and LA is there both the same kind of sprawling city. Not to say there alike just set up the same.

Exactly.
Both Houston & LA are set a few miles inland, though the ship channel does extend into & near Downtown Houston via the Buffalo Bayou which snakes through downtown.
I like LA simply for the beaches and the surf, Miami doesn't seem to have as much surf depending on the time of year and what part of the coastline you're on, Houston seems to be more of a "hub" type city, more industrial too.

LA is industrial too. Ever been to Long Beach? It reminded me so much of Houston's industrial East side.
I think Miami is too compact. I have heard more people compare Houston to LA than Miami to La
You know why I believe the Houston/LA comparison never crossed my mind?
Probably because LA actually feels 'beachy' if that makes sense. While visiting, I didn't actually go to the beach but still managed to feel the influence culturally. Miami and LA both feel like beach towns IMO. Houston on the other hand feels more like a major business oriented city with a beach close by.
From a resident's perspective you've probably noticed things that I have not as I've never lived in either, but Houston's bayou's also make me think more of Louisiana than California.

Something people don't realize or forget to mention is that, LA and Miami are similar in that both metros: LA county, Orange County, and Miami with Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County, have some of the most DENSELY populated grouping of suburban cities, towns, and census-designated areas in the US. There aren't many metros like these 2 where you have literally hundreds of densely populated suburban cities clustered together along the highways and to the coast like Miami and LA do. No one can name EVERY city and census-designated area in LA county, nor could anyone name every city and census-designated area in Dade County. With Houston, it just seems like Houston takes up most of the metros population, and there aren't as many cities and towns surrounding Houston as there are Miami and LA.
I choose Miami. Miami actually looks alot like L.A. when you go on the streets. They have very similar architeture and they look identical but Miami is more tropical while L.A. is more mediterranean/desert; Both of them also have alot of celebrities. I dont know how Hoston is similar L.A. to be honest only thing i guess is a large mexican and asian population but thats about it.
Similar economic situation (bad), foreclosure issues, immigration issues. Miami is a auto-centric yet dense city like LA being sandwiched between the Everglades and Ocean like LA is between the mountains and ocean. Celebrities, beach culture, glamor factor, etc...
