It is so incredibly overrated. Maybe go to say you have been there but I don't know too many people who have been and would go again. Mostly tourists there to go crazy.
Yeah ok, your opinion stopped mattering right there because you're lying. You're not allowed to drink in the designated area, if you leave to do so you can't come back, if you're caught drinking you're out, if you try to get in and you're obviously drunk, you won't get in. Nice try. Will some people slip through? Probably, but if they really attracted that much attention to themselves they wouldn't be there for long.

Never been to none of them, but I heard NYE is better seen from a distance and it's something that you'll only want to do once.

I went to NYE in Dallas and it was pretty nice. I'm not a fan of huge crowds though.

I will agree that if you're in the least bit claustrophobic or weary of large crowds, I would hesitate to go to any of these events. I was once in a crowd in Madrid that was the size of the NYE crowd in NYC, and I did see people peeing in place and I did have a panic attack. I was pretty squished and everyone I was with freaked out and thought we were going to be separated, etc. Granted, NYE in Times Square actually appears to be more family oriented and toned down from the event I was dragged into, but I wouldn't want to be "in the middle of the crowd".

The LA Live event is fairly new and will likely take on more significant once the new stadium is built [i.e. evening concerts on New Year's eve].
The tradition of dropping Times Square ball goes back to 1907.

I think this thread was supposed to be sarcastic . Really comparing Times Square to the Peach Drop or LA. I never new there was a peach drop in Atlanta untill this thread was posted.

No it wasn't, bigger isn't always better...

I know a few people that just went to Vegas for New Years for instance..

In New Orleans the tradition is (or used to be) shooting guns into the air...
