On the other side of this, Brooklyn and Queens are also surprising as it has been my perception that they have seen a good chunk of the growth the last 10 years. However, they do have the demographic mixture that would lead itself to an undercount. More surprising than that is the Bronx pretty much has the same demographics that would also be likely not to send in a Census form, but posted the largest gain outside of Staten Island that really has no place but up to go.

NYC is always a very interesting city to study though as far as population growth goes though. It's like trying to figure out all of the factors that goes into a State's growth in one place.
I'm actually surprised that Manahttan's growth wasn't more. If you went by the 2009 community survey, it had the fastest population growth outside of Staten Island.

And it seemed like Brooklyn and Queens had a lot of new construction and infill. I'm rather confused at the results. It seems like the census was consistently lower by the community survey for cities by 40%-50% for not just NYC but most major cities.

I swear you are jealous of D.C.! Tyson's Corner had 92,603 jobs back in 2005. It's projected to have 143,000 jobs by 2030. If you haven't been keeping up, Tyson's Corner is going through the greatest redevelopment second only to Dubai world wide and if you read you would know it's not coming from me saying that.

You dont get it, no one is jealous of DC. DC boosters have this idea that their region will prosperously continue to boom because the government will never take cuts. Youre mistaken sir, a government cut will stop all of these impressive projects right in their tracts. I love the DMV but this is to much delusion, just think about what your city will do when tax dollars break... either you dont understand what we're saying or your just dont want to see the light

That's the most concerning thing to me with all of these releases.

With any type of estimation, there will be a variance of some sort. In most situations, up to 10% is "acceptable".

A variance of about 50% on average is, well, not a variance but an eff up.

Nobody is jealous of DC - everybody knows it's a great city. Everyone just gets annoyed how arrogant you and some of the other DC posters come off. You guys make fantastical claims continuously (you're good with posting up sources though) while rarely giving credit where it's due to other places. Last time I mentioned this, one of the other DC boosters said something like "I'll keep defending DC until haters stop hating" or something along those lines. Ever realize it might be the other way around?

Let me make the claim I'm optomistic about growth in the DC area, but MDAllstar is typically the most optimistic when it comes to what you call "DC boosting." Many things MDAllstar says do have some truth to it, but there are a lot of things that still have to line up perfectly for all those hopeful scenarios to happen. He's an optimist lets just face it. I like DC when its slept on and actually not in the limelight like NY, LA, Chicago. I think growth will continue here, but the rate will not be as fast as the last 10 years. Maybe for the next few years it will, but somewhere around 2015 i could see it slowing just a bit, although still growing at substantial numbers though. The immigrant population here is booming, Maryland saw 106% increase in Hispanic population so things are still looking up...

Oh yea and a key milestone will be passing Chicago's CSA roughly around 2020 or shortly after, it's bound to happen.

And comparing Tysons to Dubai??? Lets not do that....I thought it was 100,000 residents they were trying to add, not jobs?

Ahh. So they're going ahead with that plant to construct the world's largest indoor mountain range - a full-scale model of the Alps. And I though The Onion was just joking.
