Also, the Packers played half their games in Milwaukee for decades and many of those who had season tickets retain their rights, Packers easily count for half a franchise or more IMO; I bet Buffalo's MLB and NBA fan loyalty is split among many franchises (to the extent it exists) but there is zero question the vast majority of Milwaukeeans are Hardcore Packer fans if they care about sports at all.

That is SUCH B.S!!! By this point it is becoming common knowledge that Buffalo is going through a huge renaissance. Seriously, google is your friend.

Milwaukee residents are fans of the Packers, as well as their local NBA and MLB teams - the Bucks and the Brewers. No one on this thread seems to realize they have professional teams, as well. I'll attach one of my favorite articles about Milwaukee. http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jul.../tr-milwaukee6

This was three years ago, has it changed that much?! Who needs Google when you've been there?

Quite a bit due to state investment, but where did you go in the city/area?

It seems like Milwaukee's North Side has similar issues as Buffalo's East Side, with both cities having very similar demographics.

Well I live here, and I know the truth. I am seeing Buffalo change and all the things going on here. A lot of great things are happening in this city and I am completely skeptical of people who claim they have been here(recently). Buffalo is a punching bag for C-D and always has been on this site and people will not(not everyone here, but a majority)will not give credit where credit is due. It's just so much easier to bag on Buffalo.

Oh and yes Buffalo has changed THAT much. Here is more proof. Hope clicking on these links won't be too hard for you.

Oh and about Detroit, it has been a while since I have been there. I was not bagging on Detroit, but defending Buffalo. Detroit is ALSO a punching bag on this site.

I have lived in Buffalo for 62 years and it HAS changed that much in the last few years. I have always been the first one to bash Buffalo at every opportunity but the changes in the last 3 years have been astounding. First of all our wonderful governor has pumped billions into our economy. They are building a medical corridor which links UB medical school plus Roswell Park cancer center Buffalo General hospital and a new children's hospital. The area around it was a ghetto and it's being revialized. The waterfront is undergoing a revitaliztion and the football team has a new deep pocketed owner who also owns the NHL Sabers. a new football stadium is in the future and for the first time in 50 years the city is on the rise, something I thought would not happen in my lifetime. Buffalo has been everybody's favorite punching bag for as long as I can remember but those days will be ending soon. There are still problems but now we have hope. Whole foods market is under construction. I will soon be leaving there for Florida soon because I can't take the cold anymore and my wife is from a tropical climate and I am retired now but I will come back to visit. To all those Buffalo bashers you better look for a new target now.

I have spent time in both cities, so I feel that I can shed some light here. I agree that these are two pretty similarly situated cities.

Weather: Milwaukee. I mean, it's pretty lousy in both cities, but as others have mentioned, no city does blizzards quite like Buffalo.

Sports: Buffalo. Though something like 40% of the Packers season ticket holders come from metro Milwaukee (I hate when the Packers are referred to as a small market team for this reason). Still, as others have said. NFL+NHL>MLB+NBA. Also, Milwaukee really doesn't support the Bucks well at all as Marquette routinely outdraws the Bucks at Bradley Center. Brewers tailgates are fantastic though.

Food: This is tough. Buffalo has a couple of really unique culinary contributions (wings, beef on weck, ted's red hots), but I think I'd still give the edge to Milwaukee here. The amount of german restaurants and brat bars on Old World Third always impresses me. I also think Milwaukee does experimental/fine/contemporary dining a bit better at the moment.

Downtown: Buffalo in terms of size and amount of commerce, Milwaukee in terms of amenities and after work activity.

Architecture: Buffalo. It's evident that Buffalo was planned to be a much larger city than it is currently.

Location: Push. Both within 2 hours of Alpha + global cities, and a short drive away from plenty of interesting parks, lakes, etc.

Neighborhoods: Milwaukee. This might just be a result of Milwaukee being a larger city, but I feel as though Milwaukee has a larger number of interesting or bohemian neighborhoods. Also a larger number of middle class/safe neighborhoods.

Scenery: Buffalo. Niagara Falls just a short drive away is incredible.

Parks: Milwaukee. Almost the entire lakefront is parkland.

Shopping: Push. Both cities have some eclectic neighborhood shopping, but mostly rely on suburban malls for serious shopping.

Nightlife: Milwaukee. Buffalo packs a good nightlife punch for a city of its size, and its large Irish population has given way to a bevy of Irish pubs throughout the city. However, I firmly believe that Milwaukee is one of the more underrated nightlife cities in the U.S. No city does corner bar culture better than Milwaukee, and no city, not even Portland or Denver, is more obsessed with beer.

The problem with Buffalo is it is located in New York State.
