That's awesome, glad to hear that.

It may not look like NE cities but it doesn't remind me of any southern cities other than maybe Savannah and Charleston. You can ride through most southern cities and be in suburbs in the proper, won't happen in NOLA.

dont forget Galveston

I find New Orleans very unique to most if not all the big US cities. Architecturally its quite different in a beautiful and charming way. The food, its people and the land itself are like no other. The cemetaries are very interesting. I find traveling to and exploring cities and their history so fascinating and I put New Orleans at or near the top!

I think the infrastructure of New Orleans throws it's urban look off. Most cities build with brick but in New Orleans the vast majority of its urban stock is constructed using wood. Also the city should invest in burrying its power lines. Removing them would vastly change the look of a street. In terms of comparison it's not far off at all. New Orleans was once the 3rd largest city in the US and reamined one of the largest 25 cities until 1990 and it's population was in the same range as Boston until Katrina.
And even with population loss you don't loose density and infrastructure unless you tear it down and west of the industrial canal, new orleans has plenty of density. If you remove the wetlands (The Eastern area of New Orleans East inhabited by water) New Orleans becomes the 4th densest city in the US. Assuming the population rebounds to 485,000 or 500,000.

First time I went to San Francisco, I thought I was in New Orleans -- trash in the streets, rundown housing, panhandlers, runaways and filth. In those regards, the two cities are very much alike.

This discussion clearly took place during a phase when CvC posters were sane enough to discuss the merits of two cities without the bashing and/or boosting that's so prevalent now.

...well that is until Newsboy's comment. You can clearly see a stark difference between 2011 and prior, and 2012 to the present. Now its all overly incendiary hyperbole intended to demean one city in favor of another as if there's a point system associated.
