I could name a million cities that would do that in a heartbeat.
Who, name away? It's amazing people see glitz and glam now. How come none of you were saying this in the 1980s-2000. When the city was depressed, no one wanted to be DC. Now since DC is the flavor of the day, all of you think it's an attractive option. Isn't that interesting
Most of you wouldn't be caught dead in 80% of the city about a decade ago, but all of a sudden, DC is so lucky and so great. Lol...this is hilarious!
A lot of rust belt cities which are not even close to recovered. I think for employment's sake, people would be more than willing to give that up. As I live in NYC and this area isn't really economically depressed, I'm not so sure.
Miami during the cocaine cowboy days of the 80s had the highest per capita murder rate in the world, but slightly superseded by DC afterwards. The point is nearly every city hit a huge downward spiral. DC was hit badly, but not in a completely other league, and I don't really see a causation factor between DC's lack of representation and the crime rate because it hit every urban city.
Umm...Miami had a murder per capita of around 20-30. DC had a murder per capita of over 80. We're you serious?
Major city murder capital from 1985-2000. Nobody was envious of DC during this time. Now everyone wants to jump on the band wagon. Ridiculous if you ask me!

You must be kidding. During the cocaine cowboy days and a murder per capita of 20-30? Look up your stats. And those stats are minus the number of people that fell through the crack since our numbers on immigration and immigrants weren't very good back then.

We can always give this a shot and post something like, "If we were to have a new capital in your city and all the investment and job opportunities came with it to your city, but you had to give away the right to vote in federal elections, would you be welcome or reject this proposition?"

Actually, I thought inner cities were fubar'd throughout the 80s and most of the 90s. For larger cities such as LA and NYC, it's hidden by the statistical evening of having a huge population while the worst regions within those cities had larger populations of all of DC and had comparable or worst murder rates. All American cities suffered from huge disinvestment--it was not unique to DC. Meanwhile, there's still little to explain how these crime rates tie into lack of federal representation.
Honestly I really do feel like New York, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Bay Area, & Toronto are the only elite and global cities in North America.
Boston, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Montreal, Atlanta, Vancouver, & Philadelphia all feel more like they're important nationally more so than internationally. That's not to discredit them but they feel very regional compared to the first 7 international powerhouses.
Well for one, Brasilia isn't in the same stratosphere as DC. Have you seem DC's GDP? Brasilia can't hold DC's jock strap in anything really. Look at the density of that city. You can't be serious!
All that proves is the fed gov is too big for our own good. DC lives off the fed gov, was created to be the head of state. Politicians arent anyone I want as a neighbor nor do I consider them intellectually elite. They are just power hungry and know how to raise funds to get elected.
I went ahead and added a poll, I strongly encourage more participation in regards this topic.
It's a great topic in my opinion, well personally any conversation about global or international is awesome.
