Hello all,

I grew up in the San Francisco area and lived there almost all of my life. I left a few years ago looking for something different and have moved around a bunch since then and have visited several places in search of whatever it was that I was looking for.

I finally have come to realize that the San Francisco area is unique and is largely what I want. I absolutely love the people, the geography, the entertainment, the driving style, the pace... However, I am stubborn. I refuse to move back because I hated the weather. I need to have snow somewhat regularly. I also do not want to deal with the political situation in that state. It has always bothered me and has only gotten worse in recent years.

Can those who are well travelled in the US advise me on which areas are most similar to the Bay Area in terms of lifestyle, the fast pace (at least for the west) and geography, but with a real winter?

Thanks!

The weather just felt never-ending. I always wanted another weather pattern to step in. It was always an absolutely beautiful summer - rarely getting too hot on the peninsula, but spring winter and fall all felt the same to me. Cool, sometimes drizzly or rainy.

I have learned that I much prefer 4 distinct seasons.

I'd say Denver, but its not on the coast.

Of course Seattle is similar to SF.

I often hear Austin compared to San Francisco or Texas' version of SF, but in reality its more like Sacramento.

Maybe also some insight on the lifestyle aspects you enjoyed would be helpful.

I would look at Chicago. It doesnt have the topography, but it does have the lake and the city reminds me of San Fran in some ways.

Yeah, the weather is perfect for people who like months and months and months of no rain, sunny skies and cool air---or for those who dont want a winter that is too cold.

But not so great for someone who wants the 4 seasons.

Boston? Vancouver? The Bay is unique so id say none.

Pittsburgh is like a twin. It has scenery, hills, and a real winter.
