There is also no getting around the basic fact that they played and represented New Jersey.

You need to ask someone from New Jersey the question.

New York City had no bearing on a sports team in New Jersey.

I shouldnt have to explain the relationship between NY and NJ, should I?

The Giants/Jets are different, because theyre "NY" teams. They parade in the Canyon of Heroes.

Where do the Nets parade? Newark?

Now they parade in Brooklyn (if they win), so its moot anyway.

Look at the Flyers.
That's the NHL. Everyone in the Philly area knows he greatly favored the Flyers franchise over the Sixers but that's another argument in itself.

Trust me they do not represent the entire state. We actually had a serious debate about this a while back on the New Jersey forums.

I currently live in South Jersey so I know what I'm talking about.

You must be referring to Northern New Jersey because it's not like that in Southern New Jersey. We are more culturally aligned with Philadelphia.

I went to school at Kean and lived in North and Central Jersey. Lived with plenty of South Jerseyans and Philly fans.

Suggesting that NYers would go to NJ to see the Nets is hilarious.

Seeing that youre from South Jersey, you should know how a pro sports team in South Jersey would do vs. Philadelphia.

It wouldnt do much at all.

When it comes to the Flyers I have a lot of respect for him but as a die-hard 76ers fan I boldly stand by my comment.

The general rule in South Jersey is that we don't root for teams north of Mercer County, NJ.

So maybe now you know why North Jerseyans would support NY teams.

Most Ranger fans are from NJ too. Devils attendance is pretty bad.

It's not completely true, but there is some truth to that. There are some really good long-time basketball fans in Philadelphia, but they care about city ball, i.e. high school and college (big 5). The Sixers have never been as big as that (relatively speaking).

That said, things are worse in recent years, because the loyal fanbase is convinced that the ownership doesn't care about them. I'm not sure how the Sixers do in local tv ratings. I know the Spurs are the top team. The Sixers certainly do better in TV ratings (in market share or raw numbers) than they do in attendance.

Yeah, there are incidents in other cities, but in Philly, its virtually every fanbase, save for the Sixers, although they did cheer Noah's ankle injury.
At least, Eagles fans didn't cheer their own QB's injury. Anyway, I won't defend fans when they cheer injuries, other than to say every fanbase does it.

No fanbase is asbolved from its legions of douchebags, but Philly appears to be the exception where it transcends all fanbases (Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, Sixers). It just doesnt seem to matter. There at least an incident for each one.
