I hear you. I was just taking Yelp's numbers. I could go to Factual.com, but just like Yelp it's crowd sourced too and not everywhere is on there. Great resource though.
A restaurant that serves alcohol..thought about that one too. Depends on the set up. I guess I should have said "Drinking establishments." There are still many restaurants that operate as such but still have good, well stocked bars in them and aren't straight on taverns, but should still be counted IMO. It's a crapshoot.
Yeah I'm thinking a restaurant that has a walk up bar, or a hotel with a bar. I wouldn't mind going to them. But the overall numbers still seem inflated from reality. I'm trying to add up real bars and clubs in my head and no way is it 5000 of them. I think Manhattan only has like 700 or something like that. That being said I don't see how Philadelphia would come close to matching Chicago's # of establishments.
House of Blues is a good concert venue for the most part but I don't know anybody who actually goes "out" there. And when there is a concert, it's definitely not a local crowd, but people from allover the metro there to see the concert. There is 10pin bowling lounge in the same area, that is somewhat interesting, but definitely not a regular type place.

I hate how that thing looks, but still a good venue. I've seen a number of good shows there, BUT it is in no way the best venue in town. They attract some great musicians, but I prefer other ones like Aragon Ballroom, The Vic, Congress Theatre, Riviera (although their sound is worse), Park West, Chicago Theatre, Metro...and of course for the huge shows, Soldier Field, United Center, UIC Pavilion, and Allstate Arena.

Wrigley Field is a also a good (but more rare) concert venue.

Hmm, I'd disagree. As a guitarist, whenever HOB gets someone great in, I go there to see it. I guess I can't say if these people are local, but I have seen a handful of the same people at the guitarist shows (one looks like Billy Corgan's dad, who is a blues guitarist).

Yeah is a little odd, but Chicago has amazing architecture.
Also got to grab a drink at the Trump outdoor lounge last spring basically right next door, a gorgeous night and gorgeous view (even some beautiful women). Drinks are priced for the view
I love Chicago and the nightlife, just wish there was less corn

I'm talking more of the headlining shows... you know... Snoop Dogg, insert some DJ, etc.
