Hi - all opinions &/or facts welcome. Need to get a firm grasp on the underlying differences between these two cities. What are the upsides & downsides to each city? Look forward to reading the posts. Thanks in advance!
Chicago= much larger, more vibrant, colder in winter, warmer in summer, sunnier, snowy at times. Excellent dining and shopping, multi-cultural, incredible arts/museums/etc.
Seattle= smaller, just as expensive, warmer in winter, cooler in summer (less humid too), cloudy and drizzly most of the year, rare snow and ice storms. Great shopping, not as cultural (but close), lots of outdoor activities, etc.
Both are great cities, COL is similar, Chicago's burbs are better and more plentiful, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Anything really specific you want to know? Ive been to Seattle a few times and loved it, but I like Chicagoland more. There are 9 million people in Chicago's metro, that should speak volumes about it. Seattle is much smaller, but still very nice. I just dont like the gloom n' doom winters they have, its cloudy too much for too long. Id rather deal with colder temps and have at least some sun. What you really need to do is visit both and see which ones you like. Be sure to spend times in the neighborhoods and downtowns to get a real good feel.
Everyone's White Hen Coffee is pretty bad - Intelligentsia has some great coffee tho'
Well the thing is White Hen started in the Chicago area (Des Plaines as part of Jewel) and then expanded to the Boston area. That may be why he stated it as a local thing, because it kinda is/was...;-) Too bad 7-11 bought it out, no more White Hen in a few years...
Seattle Chicago Lack of snow Favorable snow Ocean :P Lake Michigan :P High Living Cost Medium Living Cost Kind Friendly Nice nature views (mountains) Lack of nature views Easy commute Overpopulated? Fires, Santa Ana Winds not far Windy Diverse? Diverse Favorable? Favorable Food yum... May have a larger poverty level Other areas of Il besides Chicago, you may find complete boring

Chicago overall would be better... seattle
may sometime seem as a retire area
Chicago sometime may seem too youthfull but nevertheless its not.
Seattle to retire to? Seattle is full of pretty hip people, not you know, hip replacements.
