Crushes. Houston and Dallas are huge brawls.

Houston and Dallas feel like small towns compared to Seattle and even Austin.

I have to really disagree on that. Houston and Dallas packs a big punch against Seattle. I will say that Seattle does have the edge in urban density, but Houston & Dallas will blow out Seattle in terms of skyscrapers. That photo of Houston above is outdated, there is at least 6 or 7 buildings alone that aren't in that picture. Not to mention that both Houston and Dallas have multipule skylines.

If you're basing it off urban density, then I can maybe see Seattle. But Austin? Dallas and Houston are much denser cities than Austin.

Greater Downtown Seattle has 17 buildings of 420' to 660' completed or under construction since that picture was taken, which I'm guessing was summer turning to fall 2013.

So... essentially, good fighters, right?

Honestly, looking at skylines of many major cities, other than NYC and Chicago, you just can't place them. The skylines of San Francisco and Pittsburgh could be anywhere, honestly. Even Seattle without the Space Needle could be anywhere. Thus, I don't hold this against Houston.

What I do say, though, is that I prefer the aesthetic of Houston's building stock (especially the historical stock) over that of Seattle, or Austin.

Spoken like someone who doesn't know what a small town is.

Dallas's core is starting to achieve big city density despite what people here are saying...it easily has the largest urban core in Texas. Here's a recent aerial...I was pretty impressed. Laughable someone would say Dallas feels like a small town compared to Austin...

Lol.... yes even my beloved Austin doesn't hold a candle against Seattle in term of skyscrapers and urban density let alone Houston and Dallas. I would say that Austin on par with Kansas City right now, but it has a ways to go before it can ever reach the other 3.

Report: Downtown Seattle growth continues to be staggering - seattlepi.com

Quote:
The Downtown Seattle Association's Mid-Year Development Guide found that -- on average -- one construction project has broken ground every week since the beginning of the year.

Sixty-five buildings are under construction right now, according to the report. That's the most buildings at one time since the DSA began tracking it in 2005.

“It’s easy to see when you just walk around downtown,” said James Sido of the DSA. “The cranes tell quite the story when you walk around down here.”

Most of the space under construction now is residential, according to the report. At least 8,661 units are set to be completed this year and next (including 708 already finished so far), the report found.

But the report also found that 14 million square feet of office space is in the pipeline.
