Yes it's ridiculous that Houston and Dallas barely have any people on their streets. Everyone is in their car.
You do realize we have tunnels where people walk to and from different parts of downtown right? That's why you don't see much people outside walking, they are all under your feet. That has been changing lately with all the new residential skyscrapers being built where the tunnels do not reach.
This picture for reference is from about a week ago. We have work to do yes, but the city is getting denser and denser every month with many projects (mostly residential) filling in the holes in Downtown and Midtown.
We live never come close to a Chicago or NYC let alone world class cities in other countries lol but we can compete with about any other major city in the states.

I've always gathered that in posts between southern and northern cities, that the northern one will win every time, and this one was no different I see. Even if you leave politics/culture out, it seems most C-D posters are allergic to sunshine or temps above 75 degrees
Dallas's core is starting to achieve big city density despite what people here are saying...it easily has the largest urban core in Texas. Here's a recent aerial...I was pretty impressed. Laughable someone would say Dallas feels like a small town compared to Austin...
I think austin will soon give seattle a run for it’s money in a skyline competition. Austin now has a 1000’er, 874’, 2-700’ plus and multiple 600’ and 500’ buildings under construction with another 800’, 2-700’, and 500’ proposed. Should be interesting comparison by 2030
