Some news ruffling feathers from my neck of the woods, Wilmington, Delaware (aka Murder Town, USA):

New ABC drama 'Murder Town' set in Wilmington

The city is currently sitting at 25 murders this year (out of a city population around 71,000), only 4 murders away from the 2010 record with a month and a half to go. Camden, New Jersey may get all the 'glory' for this area concerning crime, but Wilmington is also a mess right now. When this show airs, even more national attention will be given to the city, to the chagrin of many (though I think it's necessary, at this point, if Wilmington proper's ongoing revitalization is to continue).

Columbus Ohio is at 77 for the year. With the yearly average being between 90 and 100 it looks like we might be below average this year.

It would be insane on a monumental scale for a major city to end the year with more murders than a city 13 times bigger and only 3 hours away.

Detroit missed that honor by two murders in 2013. Baltimore doing it would be crazier since it's kinda close to NYC

2013
Detroit - 316
New York - 335

the 333 number for Detroit includes all homicides.
