I've been trying to find info on Albuquerque but cant....kinda curious about other cities like Tulsa,Omaha, Tucson, Vegas, Des Moines, Little Rock, Santa Fe, Louisville, Salt Lake, Nashville, Charlotte or El Paso? Anyone with updates on those cities?
Des Moines is at 6 so far this year, which is roughly normal for the city of 210,000. It usually sees between 5 and 10 homicides a year, for a yearly rate of around 2.5/100,000 to up to 5.0/100,000.
I remember a few years ago the metro area of 600,000 only saw a total of 5 murders, for a rate of around 0.8/100,000.
The metro area usually has a murder rate of around 2.0/100,000 to 3.0/100,000.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa saw it's bloodiest year in 2014 with 8 murders for the city of 120,000 (half were domestic). Normally it sees between 1-3 per year.
Same for Waterloo, it had 6 murders in the city of 68,000 for easily the highest murder rate in the state of almost 9.0/100,000. Normally it's a more violent city, and has around 3-5 murders for the year.
Sioux City has around 80,000 people and might see one or two a year, same with Iowa City which has 75,000 and Dubuque with 60,000 people. Anywhere from 0 to 2 or 3 at most.
Eastern Iowa cities have seen a large influx of people escaping the Chicago ghettos in the last 10 years or so, and many of the cities have seen huge spikes in the number of shootings.
There have been well over 40 shootings in Cedar Rapids this year, back in the 1990's it was rate to see more than 3-5 in an entire year.

It's interesting/disturbing that this is happening. I agree with the article that some places are probably experiencing a rise due to racial tensions, but not everywhere. Nashville absent of racial issues by any means, but I certainly wouldn't say the cause of the spike has to do with racial issues. Two straight years with total murders around 40, then 42 already this year. We're on pace to have a 50% spike.

Yeah I saw that too. I had expected Baltimore and St. Louis but Milwaukee is nothing short of shocking.
From 2000-2014, Milwaukee averaged 100 killings a year. After 8 months, Milwaukee has already experienced 104 killings. From 2000-2014, St. Louis averaged 129 killings a year. After 8 months, St. Louis has seen 136 killings and on pace for over 200 killings. The last time St. Louis had over 200 killings was 1995's total of 204. Other cities have seen a rise in killings this year compared to the same time last year, but unlike Milwaukee and St. Louis, those cities are on pace for lower year in totals compared to their average annual totals from 2000-2014.
