Ugh....my goodness. What the hell is going on with American cities today? This is ridiculous...at this rate, we'll be back to the early 90s in a few years and cities will once again decline.
I have to think that the recent backlash against police has had a chilling effect in cities across the country. I know causation is not possible to prove but the correlation is quite obvious. Police are less willing to do their jobs for the fear of being criminally charged like what happened in Baltimore. That emboldens criminals and thus you have more crime. I think we've really taken a step or two backwards in the past year as a country.
Atlanta does have a lot more murders in the suburbs than the city though. Something like 250 more in the suburbs than the city according to the FBI. I'm guessing it happens primarily south of the city.
Wow that many in the suburbs? I'm interested in hearing more.

It's also the phenomenon known as the "Ferguson Effect". It's the society which Obama created where the police are criminals and low-life thugs are the victims and get a lot of sympathy.

I think ATL has more "ghetto" suburbs than your average city. I'm not sure how many other cities have an entire suburban county like Clayton County that gets described as ghetto. Factor in many parts of Southern Dekalb, Southern Fulton, etc. and it doesnt seem so unbelievable then.

Hate to burst your bubble but stop trying to politicize this! President Obama has nothing to do with White Police officers caught on camera killing unarmed black men!
Obama didn't create this environment and is now being exposed through cell phone recordings! Black young men have known for decades that they were the victims of police brutality or did you miss the Rodney King beating 23 years ago?
Please don't tell me you are this naive!

Typical low information poster. Statistically speaking, homicides have been down nationwide under the Obama administration.

No, it's actually a phenomenon created by Ronald Reagan when he decided to go to "War" with non-violent drug users. Now we have more people in jail than any other country on the planet. Guess we're seeing the results of years of oppression in various communities.
Baltimore - 234
*Don't have numbers for this time last year, but I know that 234 is already more than all of last year for Baltimore.
