I've passed through Birmingham on the way to Atlanta a few times and it seems like a vibrant city that is growing. Not sure why people are looking down on it.
Charlotte ranks among the World’s Most Competitive Cities in a report recently released by IBM and Site Selection magazine. Of the top 100 global cities, including many of the larger business meccas: New York, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and like, Charlotte ranks 40th or higher across the board.
In fact, Charlotte was one of only 12 U.S. cities to make the report’s ranking, grouping it among Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
Charlotte has always been at the crossroads of commerce. From its founding in 1768 at the crossing of two Native-American trading paths to its Gold Rush in the early 1800s and the rise of the region’s textile mills and banks, the city as we all know is known as a top U.S. energy hub, the second largest U.S. financial center and third in the nation in world-class health care facilites.
Fortune 500 firms, 264 are represented in Charlotte. And Charlotte is at the epicenter of the Piedmont Atlantic region, the fourth largest concentration of manufacturing in the country and home to 918 foreign-owned businesses.
Besides our pleasant climate and good natural resources including a relatively low cost of energy, the greater Charlotte metropolitan area is home to 2.2 million people and is the second largest city in the Southeast, and its population in a 100-mile radius exceeds that of Birmingham, Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, Memphis, Nashville or Norfolk.

Because Charlotte IS a powerhouse! Seriously, would Charlotte be included on a list with cities like Birmingham or Memphis? For that matter, Raleigh and Nashville don't belong either.

Then this list is completely bs then. What is Birmingham or Memphis doing that will get them a hub status???
I say Charlotte because people always say it's getting there as one of the hub status of the south but credited sources say other wise that we are there as number 3. Hell you and I both know it's Atlanta,Miami,Charlotte,Tampa........Raleigh or Nashville or Richmond but I'll give this spot to Raleigh because the Rtp is kicking rocks................then what ever cities are left on this list or not added.
Off this list, Raleigh and Nashville clearly come in ahead. Richmond would come in behind those two, and I guess Jacksonville would come in behind Richmond. The others, I really don't know, but I know cities like Birmingham and Memphis have no business being grouped in with Nashville, Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta, etc. Those two are still seen as the few "Old South" metros that haven't jumped on the "New South" bandwagon, along with others like Montgomery, Jackson, Mobile, and maybe Little Rock.
