Been to both. No question Denver. And it's not because I don't like country music.
Amarillo, TX or Boise, ID?
Boise... there are worse places to live in Texas than Amarillo but Boise has a larger metro, is more vibrant overall, and is much better for outdoor activities.

Prescott, AZ or Palm Desert, CA?
Definitely Prescott. Desert retirement communities are not for me. Prescott seems more like an actual town.
Rochester due to being bigger and is still in a good location in terms of other cities and outdoor amenities.
Rutland VT or East Stroudsburg PA?
East Stroudsburg. Close enough to commute to the major job centers in North Jersey/NYC with a telework agreement (just half an hour drive to NJ Transit commuter rail) while being relatively affordable, peaceful and having just about as much, if not more to do in town. Plus, the Poconos are a short drive away for even more recreation opportunities in addition to the Delaware Water Gap trail in town.
Donahue, IA or Griffin, GA?
