Metuchen... Both are nice communities not too far from each other in the NYC metro but Methuen appears to be the more down-to-earth of the two and I like how it's close to some major retail as well.
Pasadena, CA or El Cajon, CA?
Pasadena, CA
Has more to to do and is more interesting than El Cajon. Has Old Town Pasadena, the Norton Simon Museum, the Huntington Library and Art Museum in nearby San Marino, the Rose Bowl, New Year's Day parade & football game and it is also closer to LA amenities (Dodger Stadium, downtown LA, Griffith Park, Silver Lake, NELA, etc) while El Cajon is further from SD and its amenities. EC has one of the higher crime rates compared to other SD suburbs. I know a few more people in the SD region than in LA, but they are not my closest friends.
Goleta, CA or San Luis Obispo, CA?

Not knowing anything about either, I've heard nice things about San Luis Obispo. Though the location on the water and it's proximity to L.A. are a few points for Goleta.

I guess it's San Luis Obispo for me.
Fort Wayne, IN or Sioux Falls, SD?
I can no longer think of the former city without a (humorous) gay-rights song lyric popping into my head:
"Think of Provincetown, Key West and San Francisco
"Without us, they'd be a lot more like Fort Wayne..."
Unfortunately, the one time I've been through Fort Wayne was at night, en route to Lansing, Mich. from Kansas City.
But my impression of Indiana's large cities, even Indianapolis, is that they punch below their weight. On that basis, I'd pick Sioux Falls.
Lawrence, Kan., or Ann Arbor, Mich.? (I haven't paired these two before, have I?)
Kalamazoo. I was thinking Muncie simply because I know it having spent portions of two summers there, but then I researched Kalamazoo and it wins this easily for me. Larger MSA, slightly larger university presence (Western Michigan is only a tiny bit bigger than Ball State, but then Kalamazoo College, although small itself, adds a second presence which contributes a little bit more), and seems to be nicely located about 2 hours from both Detroit and Chicago (and just 3 hours and 2 hours by train to those cities as well)

Columbus vs Austin
Columbus. I've lived there a few times before and I could live there again. I don't think I would survive Texas. For multiple reasons.
Oh my goodness Juneau by a million miles.
Poor poor Cairo. Sad little place.
Sheboygan, WI, or Cheboygan, MI?
Sheboygan, WI
It is larger (50k vs 5k) and is much closer to major cities like Chicago and Milwaukee with all the amenities they offer. Cheboygan, MI certainly is well located for vacations though, with easy access to Mackinac Island and Michigan's UP area, but is much further from urban areas. Sheboygan, WI is preferable for full time living IMO.
Platteville, CO or Stewartville, MN?
