No, it isn't.

Philadelphia has better schools, transit, food, weather, attractions, and people. If I wanted a suburban lifestyle, I could just not live in the city. You can't get the urban experience in Houston either.

Also Philadelphia's architecture is 100x better than Houston's culture-less build.

I agree Philadelphia has better transit and schools. Houston has a better highway system and that's not debatable. Everything else you said is debatable. Philadelphia has better summer weather. Houston has better weather in the winter. Also everyone is not big on urban lifestyle in reality unlike this website. Urban areas have more crime. There is a reason Houston or Texas in general is outgrowing most of the U.S. I work around the military and they all like Texas. So many ppl from Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia etc are moving to rural Texas. Why? Because its provides a better peaceful lifestyle to raise a family.

Philadelphia and Houston are both amazing food cities.

Houston definitely wins out in ethnic food variety and Philly wins out in regional cuisine. The rest are debatable. I dont know that I could say one is a better food city than the other overall. I prefer Houston's food scene because ethnic food is my preference.

Would definitely give Houston a big advantage in food. It's personal preference, but Houston does better in Asian, Latin and of course BBQ. It's a food mecca. As is Dallas.

Yep, in real life, people want space, peace and quiet. They don't have to live in a walkable area. I've thought about it myself.

Define ugly?

Me personally I don't think Philadelphia is UGLY just has a lot of run down areas and grit. Also Houston imo has a lot of unattractive areas but I wouldn't consider the entire city ugly either.

Better schools as in universities/colleges or K-12? Are we talking entire metro or city alone? Neither city is nothing to brag about when it comes to K-12 but I thought Philly was ranked very poorly when it comes to public schools in the city.

Food is subjective...both cities have amazing food scenes. I'd also say Philly probably has better summers and springs. Houston has better winters and falls. Philly definitely has Houston beat on attractions and transit and I'd even say culture. Philly has a more distinct local culture. As far as people, don't really know how you measure that but ok.

But seeing as though the name of the site is City-Data.com and we're in the City vs. City subforum, it only makes sense that things skew urban here.

Urban areas have more crime.
Not necessarily. There are more than enough big sprawling municipalities, low-density suburbs, and small towns with high crime issues also.

I doubt that. Suburban Texas? Sure. But who's moving from Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia to deep east Texas or the
panhandle?

Yes, what a strange claim to make. Especially as "rural, peaceful areas" in which to raise a family are in great abundance in nearly all directions outside of Philadelphia, and they're much closer and familiar to ex-Philadelphians than anything in Texas.

Philadelphia also absolutely competes with Houston on anything food/culture related.

Even economically, Philly is arguably a much more well-rounded city with opportunities in many sectors.

But anyway I'll go one by one

Diverse-Houston
Crime-Philadelphia (from reputation, but Houston's murder rate is pretty high).
Universities-That's a tough one. Both have great Universities within proximity.
Housing-Houston
Nightlife-Both. I've enjoyed clubbing in both cities. But Houston is more diverse so your chances of ending up with a foreign chick are higher if you're into that. ROFLMAO
Weather-If you like heat, Houston. If you like cold, Philly.
Nicer looking-I'd have to go with Houston. But that was hard.
More things to do-Both. I think Philly has more famous museums, but Houston has a good museum scene too. Both have plenty of attractions, but different types.
Better city for single nurse-Houston!!! With the huge hospital scene you have that. Go a night out on Montrose and you won't regret it.

Philadelphia all the way. Much better city, much better suburbs. People always complain about the crime in philly(and not for bad reason) but like it’s not that different from Houston and is about the same as DC which you basically never hear people talk about the crime there. Houston also has plenty of trailer park, shack neighborhoods where trash just flows into the little ditches where there are no sidewalks in front of peoples houses.

Houston is more diverse though and as a result, I would think it has better food options.
