Okay, so the CityData crime index has Dallas at 434.9, and Los Angeles at 251.3

Back in 2001, Dallas had an idea of 844.1, and Los Angeles was at 589.6

The stats show that Dallas has a murder rate of 11.4 per 100,000, and Los Angeles has a murder rate of 6.5

These are the stats for both cities for crime per 100,000 residents.

MURDER

Dallas: 11.4
Los Angeles: 6.5

RAPE

Dallas: 43.3
Los Angeles: 19.7

ROBBERIES

Dallas: 334.8
Los Angeles: 203.3

ASSAULTS

Dallas: 274.3
Los Angeles: 196.6

BURGLARIES

Dallas: 1,156.6
Los Angeles: 405.5

THEFTS

Dallas: 2,420.2
Los Angeles: 1,436.9

AUTO THEFTS

Dallas: 588.4
Los Angeles: 370.8

ARSON

Dallas: 36.3
Los Angeles: 36.9

These stats are a big scary, considering how violent parts of Los Angeles can be. Is Dallas really that much worse than LA?

Like nearly every city, there are the safer and not-so-safe parts.

And yet some of the safest cities in the country are suburbs of Dallas.

You might get better replies if this was posted in the Dallas forum, rather than Texas at large.

You could say this of any inner city ever. Even Detroit or my hometown St. Louis, two of the most dangerous cities in the nation, have super safe suburbs. It's a cop-out for explaining away issues within city limits, however. Especially for a city that's 341 square miles.

Dallas encompasses 70% of anything even close to ghetto in the Metro Area and outside of Dallas smaller parts of FW, Arlington, Garland and Mesquite are a little rough. Because of this you end up with Plano which is technically an inner suburb was the safest U.S city by murder rate over 250,000. LA on the other hand has many of the rough areas not in the city limits but in nearby suburbs. This lessens much of the crime that would be attributed to the city of LA, I think both Metro areas are equally safe though. Houston for example has many rough suburbs and a rough city in general so Houston area overall might be more dangerous than Dallas area in terms of murder.

Nobody is going to f--- with you, bro. Chill out.

Random crime is rare, very rare, in any American cities.

If you're not looking for trouble, if you're not drunk on the streets, and if you know how to keep your mouth shut, nobody is going to touch a hair on your sweet head.

Capice?
