Yea, I'm actually weighing a job offer in DC with the govt. Completely 'unsexy', but would be a great career move, and I know DC does have nightlife hot spots for young professionals, like U Street.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOz

DC is a good place to work in law or government. That does not make it cool. Cool is a lot more than bartending and partying. It's about the art/music scenes and creative industries. Black DC used to be cool. The DC hard-core scene used to be cool. The DC of which you speak, not so much.

Defintely. Check out Adams Morgan as well. Obviously nothing like what you'd find in Miami but DC has a pretty good club/bar scene.

NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, DC, Boston and Philadelphia all have the cool factor because of a lot of resources.

Denver, Minneapolis and Seattle have a lot going on and are up and coming cities.

St. Louis, Cleveland and Pittsburgh are nice alternatives for the big cities for those who are on a bidget but want a lifestyle.

I'm sure I have left some out but the coolness factor is subjective to personal taste.

I would say hands down:

NYC
SF
LA
Chicago
Miami
Austin
Boston

To a lesser extent:
New Orleans
Denver
Seattle
DC
Maybe Philly?

Agreed. DC is 'cool' but in the same category as NYC, Chicago, LA, SF, etc. IMO.

While charming and beautiful, there is something that feels just so sterile about it. I think it's because it is so dominated by the goverment. Rarely are jobs in the government sexy nor considered cool for the most part.

LA, NYC, San Francisco, Miami, Seattle. Just from personal experience, I don't think younger people view Chicago as a cool city. Maybe it's different in the midwest, but out west if you say your moving to chicago for a job people will be impressed because people respect it as a dominant city, but no one will really think "oh this guy is about to be out there with the in crowd" if you will.

NY, LA, New Orleans, Vegas, Miami, Atlanta

Granola types like Seattle, Portland and SF aren't cool.
