I think it's also a factor that while Chicago gets lots of press coverage and is known to be a "high crime city", statistically its violent crime rates aren't very extraordinary.
Cities with a higher violent crime rate than Chicago, aside from your St Louis, Memphis and Detroit....
Orlando
Nashville
Washington DC
Atlanta
Philadelphia
Indianapolis
Las Vegas
Cincinnati
Houston
Wichita
Miami
Minneapolis
Buffalo
Toledo
Kansas City
........
right, that's why things are looked at based on rates, it takes away any impact of different population sizes. Regarding rates it doesn't matter if Chicago is the largest or smallest city on that list, it ranks them based on how much crime there is per person.
Would you rather live in a city with 10,000 people and 100 murders or 1,000,000 people and 110 murders.
If the vast majority of those 100 murders are in the same locations then it wouldn't make much of a difference.
It was ridiculous 2 years ago when it first appeared and its ridiculous now...and most of the article comments agree that it was ridiculous...are you a Yardie?...if so, you should know that some of these articles have different agendas...this article was probably trying to minimize the crime problem in Jamaica for political reasons

To be fair the Jamaican community never wants to take any criticism about their island seriously. But if it were another island they would have no problem calling them out on it.
It’s something I noticed growing up in Brooklyn. This article is pretty much what I’d expect to hear on a Brooklyn Street!

No, I'm American, Black American.
First time i came across it actually. The only point i agreed with is that the comparisons could be unfair to any places with the smaller numbers. And before anyone I know and understand the per capita formula. But it's the perception of being worser when people don't know the full context.
They claim that smaller countries unfairly suffer from this metric, then go on to specifically address "third world countries". Bit of a lapse there and shows their agenda. They're trying to say that the US is the most dangerous country in the world in comparison to Honduras and Venezuela, based on the fact there's more murders committed "per hour" than those countries....

Aiyiyi...
Same can go for cities comparison in this thread. More homicides in Chicago but St Louis have higher per capita and so on. The perception of being " most dangerous " is why arguments or debates go on tirelessly.
