I'd go with Oakland. It's probably my favorite city in the Bay despite it's reputation of being high crime ridden area. Yes it has it's issue just like some of the other secondary cities on the list(looking at you Newark) but man does it have a lot of character and things going on in Oakland. When you visit the Bay imo Oakland is not an afterthought. It's not a drive by city. San Francisco is the city, Oakland is the town.

Out of these, Oakland. Not so much the primary thing-but such a big part of the Bay Area itself is it's geography. If Oakland had the prominent city presence.. with SF not there and the scenery and existing urbanism it already has present-it would REALLY be a big deal.

3 secondary MDs have GDPs over $200B.

Orange County, Oakland and Cambridge.
This is a nutty list, lol. It splits up/subdivides metro areas in very odd segments. I can see isolating county data. But the way they do it is so random that the stats are relatively useless.

Oakland population: 429,000

Long Beach population: 467,000

Oakland density: 7,514 ppsm

Long Beach density: 9,344 ppsm

Oakland port annual container volume: 2.39 million units

Long Beach port annual container volume: 6.73 million units

Hard for me to believe that Long Beach wouldn't be a bigger deal than Oakland in the absence of L.A.
