LOL, sounds like you hate everything about your life in Boston.
Best thing you can do for yourself is find a way out and fast. Although it seems like you're looking for places that have a lot of similar qualities to Boston. How exactly does that pan out?
This is kind of a weird one. Generally speaking, what folks love about DC, is what folks love about the Boston area. Same goes for the metro. So, logic tells me what you hate about Boston is likely what you'll hate about DC... Expensive, crowded, bad weather, fast paced environment.
Baltimore is an outlier here.. Certainly cheaper, though. Portland, ME can contend with Baltimore as far as city limits goes IMO. Once you factor in the tough areas, Baltimore feels very very small.

Never been to Portland, but it would be hard for me to see how it could contend with the core of Baltimore (downtown, Inner Harbor, Federal Hill, Fells Point, Mount Vernon, Pigtown, etc.).
Location: That star on your map in the middle of the East Coast, DMV

I agree to some extent however the Baltimore city limits are bigger than DC, Boston, and SF each. The city is in the top 7 urban cities in all of the U.S. I don't think Portland Maine can match that.
So, I am currently living in Boston, and I hate it. The primary factors that I hate would be the weather, cost of living, commute, traffic, politics, and icy nature of the natives. I grew up in PA, and spent a few years in Virginia and Florida while in the Military. I loved living in the south.
I have a possible opportunity to relocate for a position in the DC/ Baltimore area. Specifically, it's right around Fort Meade, and it would also include a bit of a promotion and pay bump. Would it be worth the move? It's significantly closer to family for me.
Well I make about 75k in the Greater Boston area (Started at 62k in 2012), highest pay I would get in the South would be anywhere from 35-50k. Thats why Boston i more expensive and you dont like it... you actually have to have a good job to do well in the city. I personally do not like the south because the weather is atrocious and its too slow for me. I also get along with North Easterners better.
Boston is considered one of the most progressive citis in the country, very similar to cities in Europe and Australia in terms of livability/cost/etc.... why in Earth would you think a Conservative, "Military Man", from the south would enjoy this.. if he hate liberal politics, traffic, density and Northeastern lifestyle that just adds more to the fire lol?
Thats like me moving to Louisiana (As a Liberal, LGBQT/Affirmative Action Supporting, Desnity Liker) and complaining....
there are thousands of cities in America, Boston is not for you.
Why should one reconsider moving to the Baltimore area?
Generally it does not offer even close to what DC does. You would be too far from VA, and if you are living outside of the city that is where you want to live. Maryland doesn’t compare, including the people. Both cities have crime, that’s evident in many cities. But the parts of Baltimore that don’t are small..DC has a lot more to offer. And environment wise, DC is just beautiful. Definitely one of the nicest looking cities. Baltimore will just be a smaller crappier version of Boston.
One thing I do have to note...DC is by far more intellectual. While you can get away with not really being up there, you might feel kinda lost depending on what your job/lifestyle is. The overall group average of the people of the city way exceeds that of both Boston and Baltimore. But what also comes with this is more competition.

Yea, definitely a bit overstated.
The population Baltimore vs. Portland is 9x, but to me, it feels more like 2x. Portland is packed with bars, restaraunts, usable waterfront, etc, and punches well above it's weight. Adversely, I think Baltimore is limited/constrained to a select few neighborhoods, and doesn't feel like a major city (which is why I said it's more like a Portland in it's offerings than a DC/Boston).
Either way, and back to the premise of my initial post- OP, if you don't like Boston, I wouldn't move to DC..
