Agree, once Nashville airport completes it's billion dollar expansion, the routes to it will increase and it should become more comparable to Charlotte's airport.
Not without someone making it a hub. Charlotte has 38 International destinations, Nashville has about 6.

This should really read "Not without Delta, American or United making it a hub".
Southwest doesn't do hubs. I mean, they sort of do but they do not like to call it hubs and without various aircrafts and just their entire model, it would never be anything more than 200 flights at best (compared to over 700 American flights at CLT)
Delta will never make Nashville an actual hub: Raleigh would become a hub first followed by Austin (still unlikely - but it has decent operations in Raleigh and both cities are technically a focus city for the airline). Nashville is redundant to Atlanta, Detroit, Raleigh, Minneapolis + Delta is focused may be focusing more on Miami since it has bought a huge stake in LATAM.
American will never make Nashville a hub: Too redundant to Charlotte (700 flights) and Washington DC (~250 flights) and Dallas (~900 flights) and Chicago (~400 Flights) and Miami (~300 flights).
United could, but extremely doubtful. They've always wanted CLT. CLT is one of the most profitable hubs. It prints money for American and had for US Airways. A captive market that is too small for competition but with a lucrative business travel to gouge the local market at very high prices. United is focusing on Washington Dulles. It only has ~230 flights but is looking to beef up to ~450 flights.
JetBlue: No way
Alaska: No way
Frontier: Nope
Spirit: Nope
Sun Country: Nah
It's either United or nothing. And they seem too interested in Dulles and the west coast.

Nashville's airport will never be as busy as Charlotte's. But Delta did announce a few months ago that it's making Nashville a "focus city" along with other airports. Delta is also expanding its Sky Club at BNA to be one of the largest non-hub locations in its network. It'll even be larger than AA's Admirals Club left over from when AA had a hub at BNA.
BNA will never in a million years be as busy as CLT, but for a non hub airport, it's doing pretty good and is among the fastest growing in the US, doubling in volume in the last 10 years. Again, nowhere near CLT's volume, but still nothing to sneeze at and quite impressive for an airport with 20 airlines, none of which use BNA as a hub.

If Nashville keeps growing the way it is you never know, it may end up becoming some airline's hub at some point especially if a new low fare carrier ends up entering the market. I expect Nashville's growth to increase even more rapidly in the following decade. Amazon is a game changer and will bring other companies and growth like the city has never seen before.
