Seattle and SF are kindred spirits in terms of homeless, drug-addicted, needle-infested landscapes. (See the images in the video below, even though the narrative is overblown hyperbole)
But LA is still far more gritty overall than both.
That video should not be taken seriously. It suggests sending homeless people to an island in Puget Sound as a solution to the problem. This problem is complex, but a lot of it stems from the lack of affordable housing, criminalizing the poor, and rampant population growth of people with money who can out compete local residents for housing. It comes form a privileged point of view. We have more than enough resources to provide these people with homes and and basic needs. You can't just get rid of this problem, even if you ship the current homeless people off to McNeil island.. The lack of compassion and humanity is sick to me
Also recognize that you said it was overblown, just had to emphasize that. It's embarrassing honestly

I agree - the people who made that video and the mentality behind it is terrible. It just happens to have shots of some of the areas of the city that have rampant drug use, needles, homeless population, etc.
But it’s probably too much new and subdivision heavy. Much of it is immaculate and brand spanking new. It’s definitely has uglier ugly parts than LA or the Bay..let alone Seattle.
Yeah. Vegas east of the 15/515 and North Las Vegas east of MLK are pretty bad

Too Short was from Oakland (born in LA though), and Spice1 was from Hayward
Too Short is not gangsta rap. He’s not in a gang and most of his rap is about pimping and sex.
Yeah, Too Short was all about making 10 minute songs putting together girls names with how he ****ed them, lol (Cocktails, Freaky Tails).
But C-Bo, Little Bruce, Spice 1 and bunch of them other Bay Area rappers were holding it down in the early to mid 90s. That East Bay/Northern Cali music was being bumped around Cleveland back then. ... to be fair so was the LA and NY stuff, but the northern Cali rap was big out here. It went good with the 18s we had in the trunks, lol.
Can't forget Brotha Lynch, either, locc to the brain probably responsible for about 100 murders over the years, lol. Crazy MF.

No doubt - Bay Area had all kinds of gangsta rap in the 90s - Mac Dre, Mac Mall, E-40, Andre Nickatina, among many others. Most of it never exploded on the national mainstream the way LA gangsta rap did, but it was well known across the country by people who listened to hip-hop.
