Seattle comes to mind but maybe that's just recency bias because of CHAZ/CHOP. I would assume most West Coast cities like Portland, LA, Oakland, maybe a couple East Coast places like New York or Philly. But SF is the clear number 1

Probably not the most, but Minneapolis has been very socio-politically throughout the years.
- First city in the nation to pass a civil right ordinance guaranteeing people equal rights in the workplace. (1947)

- First same-sex marriage lawsuit in America filed by Minneapolis couple

- First LGBT national gathering held in Minneapolis

- First gay student body president in the country at the University of Minnesota

- Minneapolis adopted the first transgender inclusive non-discrimination ordinance in 1975

- Rep. Karen Clark was elected into the House of Representatives and is currently the longest serving openly lesbian representative

- Minneapolis was the first major US city to elect a lesbian fire chief.

- The nation’s first group specifically for bisexuals formed in Minneapolis

- Minneapolis held the first national gathering of LGBT

- Minneapolis elected the first openly LGBT United States Marshal

- Transgender candidates, Andrea Jenkins and Phillipe Cunningham, were sworn onto the Minneapolis City Council, marking the first such victories for transgender people in a major American city council race.

- American Indian Movement (AIM) started in Minneapolis

- Baldies - now Anti-Racist Action (ARA) started in Minneapolis

- Black Label Bike Club (BLBC) started in Minneapolis

- Bob Dylan "the voice of the generation" got his start in Minneapolis. Minneapolis is where he picked up the acoustic guitar and started introducing himself as Bob Dylan.

- Epicenter of today's new "Revolution" started in Minneapolis

MA did legalize gay marriage long before CA, and it legalized marijuana at the same time.

Apathetic isn’t the right word, but I do think New Englanders are generally less noisy about activism than people in other parts of the country.

I don’t know that I’d say SF is the clear number 1. I really think SF and Seattle are right there neck and neck, with Portland not far behind. I know all places very well.

I know all these places too. In your opinion how are Seattle and San Fran neck and neck? Also, why Portland?
