Edit: I looked it up. The McAllen metro is in Hidalgo County and has less than 5,000 black folks. The CSA adds another County but that County has negligible black folks. In fact the entire Rio Grande Valley has less than 10K black people. So there is an error in the stat

The concentration of Jamaicans within a local black population is only higher in MIA NYC and Hartford.
After that in terms of where Jamaicans make up the biggest share of the black population- it's Boston. There are half as many as there are Haitians.
There are tons of Jamaican restaurants.... Irie, Golden Krust, Only One, Flames, Blue Nile, Island Style, P&R, Right Taste, Jamaica Mi Hungry, Taste of Eden, Raphaels, Murls, In and Out, Right Taste, music etc. Jamaican City Councilor, Mayor Cabinet members. It's fairly prominent. In 2014 it was the #6 foreign-born group in the city of Boston. Its always in the top 10. In 2016 ACS said there were 7,053 foreign-born Jamaicans living in Boston. https://www.slideshare.net/alvaroeli...cans-in-boston
As a state the only places with more Jamaicans are probably NY FL CT GA MD and maybe PA.
CT is cheaper but the tax on housing is really high and black homeownership in CT is only a little higher than ma 40% versus 36%. Obviously, Boston offers a lot more dynamism and just amenities/entertainment and much higher earning potential.
It's possible many of them have moved to the Cape and the Islands where they're kind of the dominant black group. They work hospitality there. There was some very minor agricultural/tobacco work outside of Springfield which has a few Jamaicans but it wasn't to the extent of the southern Hartford portion of the CT River Valley. I dont think they still come for that though. That was the 1940s-1960s.
The question would be has it actually slowed down, and then if it has- why?
Overall, I think there's probably multiple reasons for a slowdown in Jamaican migration to Boston. While the Jamaican population is proportionally significant in Boston, overall the numbers aren't as high as other metros. Hence why I'm personally not surprised that at those numbers. I don't know the specific numbers but I'm also quite sure that Jamaican emigration to the US overall has slowed down a lot.
I asked about agricultural workers because I know there was are some programs that attract Jamaican agricultural workers . COVID would obviously have had an effect on foreign workers. Canada also attracts Jamaican agricultural workers.
I think you may have a point in that many Jamaicans in the Boston area are older and COVID/retirement may have played a role in out migration/smaller Jamaican born populations. You see this in NY, NJ, MD as well. Florida is by far the most popular spot for young Jamaicans (under 30).
I had no idea that Baltimore was among the top destinations for Nigerians. I'm curious to know why, unless it's just a trickle down effect of being close enough to the DMV. Also, surprised that Atlanta is in the top 3(I pictured Seattle, though it still has higher amount East African immigrants) for Ethiopians.
Maryland is what attracts Nigerians not Baltimore City. Maryland has the largest Nigerian population outside of Texas.

Perry township on the south side of Indianapolis has become a big hub for the Chin, a Christian minority ethnic group that has faced persecution in Myanmar. There needs to be a way to be a better way to delineate between various Asian groups.
For all intents and purposes, "Asian" in America means East Asian and/or SE Asian. This isn't like the UK where Asian is automatically synonymous with the Indian Subcontinent. And nobody actually uses the phrase "West Asian" even though that is technically a correct geographic term. A large chunk of Armenians for example strongly dislike being called Middle Easterners and would also dislike being called "West Asian"
I already appreciate the work you’ve put in OP, that I feel bad asking for more. But would it be very difficult for you to crunch the numbers and re-report them on a percent, per-thousand, or maybe even /10,000 basis (whichever makes most sense) for comparison?
Rationale being that those 15.6k Nepalis are probably much more visible in metro Dallas than the 18.2k are in metro NYC.
Sri Lankans overwhelmingly prefer Canada and especially Toronto to anywhere in the US. The city of Toronto alone is home to 60,000.
For Yemeni's, Detroit reigns supreme. Specifically the Hamtramck area.

When the Muslim ban happens, thousands were on the street protesting l, which was widely covered in the media. It looked like 5-6 k on the streets alone, I can’t imagine that 50% of all Yemenis in NYC showed up to protest. Anyway. Appreciate the data. Great job.
