It’s actually way less now. Mexicans are 54.9% of Houston’s urban are Hispanic population. The SF urban area is 51.9%.
No other urban area west of the Mississippi is close to that.
Using this data, I calculated the range for the 4 main racial groups. Range = largest racial % minus the smallest racial %.
I like to think of this as a way to understand how balanced (or lopsided) racial diversity is for a place. The lower the number the more balanced the racial diversity. Higher the number, the more homogenous.
I also add a * sign to indicate no racial majority and a second * to indicate all racial groups have at least double-digit representation:

DC's Hispanic population is roughly 29% Central American. Roughly a third Mexican and Central American.
It's South American population is pretty diverse as well. The only stand out is its Bolivian population (almost entirely in NoVA and MoCo) and Peruvian (they are pretty well represented through MD and VA, not many in DC proper).

The Black population for Houston looks strange. Are they saying it decreased? Because in the other demographic thread, Houston has 1.209 million but this now says 1.207 million.
Either way, DFW momentum for its Black population now shows it has passed Houston. It was a matter of time. Also both are now larger than Philadelphia and DC metro has the third largest Black population in the nation passing Chicago.
2020 census showed DFW for prior years increased its black population second only to metro Atlanta. But given the DFW unlike ATL, DC or Houston has but one HB Colleges and Universities and its pretty small whereas the others have well known institutions. Its not something I think anyone would imagine would happen, especially by 2022.
Only 1 Urban Area has 400,000-499,999 foreign language speakers-Austin, so I included it here.

-Hispanic isn't a race, so the Hispanic numbers will be pulled the same.
-The Asian and Black numbers below will include those that are "Asian/Black Alone" and "Asian/Black in Combination".
-The White numbers will only be those that are "White Alone".
The more I go through these numbers, the more I am convinced that the perceived losses of some minority groups from some metro areas is simply a redefining of what it means to be those groups not actually people losses.
